Full body interaction
When we interact with machines we do it usually with our fingers, mostly because they are in front or our eyes and very accurate. However when we interact with humans we use our entire body (in a verity of ways). This allows for a much richer interaction with many subtleties, personalized gestures and depth. So much depth that until recent years attempts to teach machines to interpret such interactions have been limited to science fiction or extremely simple devices (hence the image from BIG)
The Wii was the opening shot of bringing this type of interaction to the mass market, and now with project Natal from Microsoft and more research money pouring into the field I think that the flood gates are about to open.
We just stumbled upon this cool research that is worth sharing:
This is the Multitoe floor. It identifies users based on their footprint. It seems that a short hop brings up a contextual menu. The menu allows you to do all sorts of things that you would like to do on your feet (?!) I’m thinking that it can work very nicely in one of those fancy toilets in Tokyo.
anyway – enjoy
